Job Title: Behavioral Health Psychotherapist
Reports To: Behavioral Health Director
Classification: Exempt
Supervises: As Directed
Primary Function:
The Behavioral Health Psychotherapist is part of the person-centered integrated care team and provides direct and indirect services to persons served in the medical and behavioral health departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Function as a part of the multi-disciplinary team, to facilitate integrated care with the primary care team as well as the behavioral health team on therapeutic aspects of patient care.
- Maintain culturally competent services to meet the unique cultural needs of each agency consumer and family member served.
- Provide psychotherapy and/or clinical care management for persons served at UCHC.
- Complete initial paperwork and treatment plans with persons served.
- Provide evidence-based interventions to both adults and children with significant behavioral health issues.
- Manage a caseload of counseling clients based on agreed upon schedule.
- Provide consultation to primary care medical practitioners on behavioral health issues and assess the need for referral to specialty care.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families to encourage compliance with medical and behavioral regimes.
- Conduct crisis assessments and interventions.
- Provide psycho-educational support groups concerning a variety of patient health issues
- Maintain client records, following agency and state regulations.
- Maintain agreed upon level of productivity.
Other Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain procedures, protocols, and paperwork on an ongoing basis to ensure the program’s relevance and usability to patients and clinic staff.
- Learn and become proficient with our Electronic Health Record System
- Be knowledgeable of other human/social services available in the area for purposes of referral; maintain documentation of such referrals.
- Interface with other human/social services to provide holistic services to persons served.
- Stay abreast of therapeutic techniques and best practices in the field.
- Perform Peer Chart Review activities as assigned.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Environmental/Working conditions:
Combination of office and exam settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 30 pounds.

Courteous, friendly, compassionate, tactful, nonjudgmental, and strong communication skills. Demonstrate ability to motivate and influence others, to obtain cooperation, and to work as a team member and leader.
Other Skills:
Use of computer, printer, office equipment, and keyboarding skills.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-year professional experience,
Education:
Master’s Degree from accredited school of Social Work or Psychology
Requirement:
Must possess a valid Iowa license. (LMSW, LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist)
Preferred Qualifications:
- BLS Certification
- Bilingual, preferably Spanish speaking
- Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)
